Looking back on the last few years, a series of serious events has shaken consumers’ assumption of food safety: dangerous Chinese diet pills, residual agricultural chemicals in Chinese produce, questions of BSE contamination of U.S. beef, and the fraudulent misrepresentation of expiration dates by major Japanese food product companies. Far from subsiding this year, the problem has grown more serious with the contamination of frozen food products imported from China with a toxic substance resulting in human suffering. It goes without saying that this series of events has dealt a serious blow to consumer confidence in the entire food product manufacturing industry. Each time one of these incidents occurs, policymakers develop and implement measures to prevent a recurrence―and yet the problem continues unabated. Perhaps food safety has already crumbled from beneath our feet.
TAHEEBO JAPAN believes that food manufacturers have an absolute ethical obligation to ensure food safety. Up to now we have taken steps to conform with the needs of our society, including by implementing safety testing by third parties, complying with the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s positive list system for residual agricultural chemicals, and manufacturing our products at plants that fully comply with food safety standards. This approach will remain unchanged as we move forward. Just as we have in the past, we will focus single-mindedly on ensuring product quality and food safety so that we can continue to provide our customers with peace of mind along with “TAHEEBO NFD”.
TAHEEBO JAPAN doesn’t leave it to local companies to ensure a high-quality supply of its basic ingredient. We maintain an office in Sao Paulo, Brazil, complete with resident staff that are well versed in local conditions in Brazil and in the regions surrounding the Amazon River. They also maintain regular contacts with the staff of the Taheebo Institute established by the late Dr. Walter Radames Accorsi as they strive to secure a consistent and high-quality supply of the basic ingredient used to produce “TAHEEBO NFD” .

In order to prevent unrestrained harvesting, a special team from the Taheebo Institute in Brazil selects trees to be harvested in accordance with Dr. Accorsi’s wishes. Prior to harvesting, samples of Tabebuia avellanedae bark are collected as part of a preparatory survey and sent to the Institute along with botanical specimens including flowers and leaves.
The Institute then confirms the species of the tree and tests the sample’s “NFD” content to see if it meets TAHEEBO JAPAN’s standards.
Finally, the selected trees—and only the selected trees—are harvested in accordance with a harvesting plan. This approach is strictly observed by TAHEEBO JAPAN to prevent the depletion of this valuable natural resource.

Harvested trees are ground at a local plant in Brazil to create the chips that serve as the basic ingredient for “TAHEEBO NFD” . The chips are then imported to Japan via TAHEEBO JAPAN’s North American warehouse. Upon arrival in Japan, sampled chips are subject to a variety of analyses and tests designed to ensure their safety. TAHEEBO JAPAN’s commitment to safety and quality is also apparent in the way it works meticulously to maintain optimal temperature and humidity at the ingredient storage facility, prevent contamination with foreign substances during the manufacturing process, and keep the product from degrading following production.
